My short lived Dallas tour with my band
March 13th, 2010 by admin
Last year, my band mates and I sat down, and had a very important conversation in which we decided that we were finally going to get down to business and organize our very first Dallas tour.
Now, setting up a Dallas tour is no walk across the park, but we didn’t know that. To get us started on our first Dallas tour, we decided to visit venues directly and give them our demos, but that took too long and there were many scheduling conflicts, so then we decided to call clubs and other venues first. This gave us just a little bit more success, but not as much success as that which we enjoyed when we started using electronic mail to contact our prospective hosts. We found that when we tried to plan this Dallas tour using the internet, people were able to respond in ways that were, evidently, more convenient and certainly more appealing than our previous phone method.
So, off we went on a Dallas tour of our own devising, set to play four clubs in three nights. However, after just one day on our Dallas tour, and just one gig, our van broke down! How are you supposed to conduct your first Dallas tour if your drummer doesn’t even know that he needs to change the oil on his dad’s old conversion van more than once every three years!
Well, believe me, we kicked him right out of the band, and now we’re an acoustic trio with drums, bass, and two guitars, which, we feel is a kind of sound that brings us back to our down home roots, which is more in tune with the soulful, sensitive concept our act was originally founded on in the first place, so, if you ask me, it’s for the best, even though we don’t have a van any more and we have to walk to our gigs.
